Join our annual
Memory Walk

Each year we come together to raise funds to support the important work of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Walk for a world without dementia…

Our Memory Walks have been bringing people together as a community for more than a decade, to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This year we will be staging events at two of our most popular local visitor destinations…

  • Sunday 22 June 2025 (11am) at Pennington Flash, Leigh
  • Sunday 3 August 2025 (11am) at Haigh Woodland Park, Wigan

Please join us as we remember those we have loved and lost, and put our best foot forward to help individuals and families living with dementia.

How to get involved…

The Memory Walk is free to join and there are two walks to choose from at each event:

  • A short accessible walk around the park (approx. 20 mins)
  • A 3km/2 mile walk around the surrounding area (approx. 60 mins)

You can register to take part online or in person on the day.

Everybody who registers in advance will be guaranteed a certificate of completion to be collected on the day of the walk.

Anyone who registers and makes a donation of £10 or more will also receive a branded tote bag as a special thank you.

You can register for free via our online booking system or the free Be Well app. (Please note: New users will need to create a free booking account to complete the booking process.)

What is the Memory Walk?

It’s estimated there are more than 980,000 people living with dementia in the UK and we can all do our bit to help.

The idea of the Wigan Borough Memory Walk is to bring people together as a community to raise awareness and funds – with every penny donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.

It’s also an opportunity for those whose lives have been touched by dementia to share happy memories of friends and loved ones who may no longer be with us.

Our Memory Walks are for everyone – no matter your age or level of activity.

You will have the option of taking part in a short, accessible stroll that anyone can enjoy or a longer, more challenging route for those who fancy going the extra mile. Both walks follow signposted routes, with walk leaders offering support.

Whichever you choose, the emphasis is on fun, having a friendly chat and enjoying ourselves in our beautiful green spaces.

Walk with Be Well

We have regular group walks all over the borough, all of which are absolutely free to join. From Nordic Walking, Bump n’ Buggy and nature strolls, to short social walks where you can chat with health advisors and community link workers, there’s so much to discover.
